I took the reference photo for this painting with a pocket camera while I was waiting for an elevator. It’s important to carry a camera and or sketchbook at all times because painting ideas are everywhere!

It must have rained the night before because there is a puddle of water on the rooftop. It was fun getting the color of the water right. I enjoy matching colors, it’s one of those things that’s become nearly automatic for me. When I look at a color I know which colors to mix to achieve it, it’s just a matter of getting the proportion of one color to another correct.
